About Us

 

Based in Evesham, Severn Waste Services (Severn) is the operating company, and the public face of municipal waste management in Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Sister company Mercia Waste Management (Mercia) holds the assets and the Integrated Waste Management contract which was signed with the two Waste Disposal Authorities (Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council) in 1999.

Severn and Mercia are owned jointly by Focsa Services (UK) Ltd and Urbaser Ltd. These organisations are in turn owned by two major Spanish conglomerates, FCC (Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas SA) and ACS (Actividades de Construccion y Servicios SA) respectively.

 

We currently operate the major landfill site at Hill & Moor, near Pershore, six waste and recyclables transfer stations, 16 household waste recycling centres (HWRC), a composting operation and a Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF). All these operations have helped the Authorities to meet or exceed landfill diversion, recycling and composting targets since the contract commenced.

 

Our activities are accredited with the ISO 9001 Quality Standard, and ISO 14001 Environmental Standard.
